Hi Steve,
Since you're out on the open road you may not have had time to check your stocks and shares. Have you noticed any signs of the biggest financial crisis since 1930 out there in the real world. Are the trees growing slower? Are the birds flying lower? Are the flowers blooming less brilliantly? Are the animals complaining about the cost of living? The politicians are all busy working out what their next move should be but it seems clear to me that mooses are the problem and what the world needs is a moose hunter to get the economy back on track. Hope you're well. The photos are great. Thanks for everything,
John

Hi Jim. Finally a note from you. Collecting empty bottles + tins. Ha. Found a perfect job. Meditating? Not on a higher plane just on a longer highway. Hot? No… freezing to death out here. Glad to hear the house shifting’s going ok. I would have sent you a postcard but I don’t have your new address. Email me. Yepthe pressure makes a very big difference.

Hi Marg. Thanks for your comment. Yeah, amazing bits + pieces Rob’s done to my site, eh? 91km - it wasn’t cycling, it was sailing, so it doesn’t count. Pretty well plodding along taking it one day at a time. Don’t worry, plenty more to come. When I get to Norseman I’ll be able to put up a big bunch of photos of the Great Australian Bight and the Nullarbor. Hope you’ll like them.

Thanks Sarah, again. Newsflash: the parcel arrived today (Wed 6 Aug). I asked the guy behind the counter how come, he just looked confused and said the postman delivered it today. I didn’t want to go there so I didn’t ask him to explain.

Hi Steve,
Its been a very long time since our last communication. My doing. The move, setting up house painting, ripping out walls, putting in a new floor and carpet. The list goes boringly on. And doing my final contract with TAFE and then finding work (without much success - I worked as an empty drink container garbage collector over the weekend at Byron's Splendour in the Grass festival). There is not much work here and am trying hard to find some.
You trip is sounding interesting but exhausting. As entertaining as talking to kids while picking up empty beer containers? But a lot better than standing and guarding the art in an always huge empty art gallery in Havana - probably the most boring job I've ever seen.
Or are you meditating on a higher plane?
Good to read your blog. I'm sure the tyre psi reading matched you blood pressure on discovery. Does it make that much difference?
And how many emails are you having to respond to?
Good to see Marg's as the first I saw this morning.
Not sure whether this note goes just to you or the blog.
How are you avoiding burning to death during the day?
Looking forward to seeing you in Byron some time.
XXXXX

Hi Steve,
91ks in a day! Slow down! You'll be there b4 we know it! For a start, we'll miss being able to read the next chapter. Your readers need their fix! I log onto your website when i need a boost - it's LIKE a block of Cadbury's really - without the sugar
coma afterwards.

The slideshow is fantastic. Thanks to Rob also for making it possible for people to stay in touch with you right across the Nullarbor. Take it SLOW and take good care of yourself as much as you can. Much love,

John,

Love the poem. Funny, I've been thinking of you too cycling through the Nullarbor. Thinking I should be keeping more in contact. My knees? They hurt. My love to Giulia and Emma, and to you. Hope you're well.

Love,

Steve,
I am sitting in my dingy little office, where a stingy
Ray of sunlight struggles feebly down between the houses tall,
And the foetid air and gritty of the dusty, dirty city
Through the open window floating, spreads its foulness over all.

Actually it's not that bad though about 2 weeks ago I saw thickest layer of smog I've ever seen in Melbourne which must have been caused by the cold morning.

I haven't been in touch for a while but I often think of you and wonder how you're getting on. I showed your website to Emma and Giulia. They thought it was really cool. Emma was particularly impressed.

You're certainly making good progress. I love the photos. How are your knees holding up? Gotta get back to work. Ciao

Nice meeting you in Ceduna. You are an inspiration. I hope the info I gave about water locations were accurate - amazing about how one forgets what happened just a few days earlier!
